HLF Launches $200,000 Ad Campaign Urging Pete Gallego to Stop Obamacare

Average Family of Four Will See Healthcare costs increase by $6,777

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 24, 2013

WASHINGTON, D.C.–Today, the Hispanic Leadership Fund (HLF) launched a $200,000 television advertisement campaign urging constituents of U.S. Representative Pete Gallego (D-TX) to call his office and demand the repeal of Obamacare.  The campaign is the first of its kind to highlight the failure of President Barack Obama’s health care law to a Spanish-speaking audience.

A recent report shows that Obamacare is going to increase healthcare costs for an average family of four by almost  $7,000 a year.  “Hard working families in Texas deserve a healthcare system that keeps costs low and puts them in control of their own future,” said Hispanic Leadership Fund President Mario H. Lopez.  “With every passing day, Obamacare is proving to be a disaster for all Americans and it is happening because Washington politicians like Pete Gallego refuse to put the interests of everyday people first.  Mr. Gallego’s constituents can do their families a great service by calling his office and urging him to stop this insanity.”

The television ads will run over the next three weeks on local Univision and Telemundo stations.  The ad can be seen in Spanish and English below.

HLF Launches Alliance for Innovation and Development

Encouraging "innovation, economic growth, and opportunity for all"

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Today the Hispanic Leadership Fund announced the launch of the Alliance for Innovation and Development (A4ID), a coalition project that focuses on the promotion of new and innovative solutions to meeting the challenge of sustainable, long-term economic growth and development.

The Alliance will highlight policy ideas from a variety of sources that focus on innovative and creative solutions in three broad areas that are critical to promoting prosperity in the 21stCentury:

  • Responsive and transparent government
  • Economic growth and development
  • Access and advancement in telecommunications

“The spark that fuels all innovation is human creativity and ingenuity,” said Hispanic Leadership Fund president Mario H. Lopez.  “But in order to positively affect the lives of ordinary people, government policies should foster conditions that allow entrepreneurship to flourish.  A climate that encourages innovation, economic growth, and opportunity for all is the roadmap to prosperity in the 21st Century.”

The Alliance will highlight and promote the work of anyone who contributes significantly to these areas, including scholars, think tanks, and entrepreneurs.  In addition, A4ID will produce original material on its web site and allow guest contributors.

As general principles, the Alliance for Innovation and Development believes that several core conditions enable innovation and encourage economic growth, including vigorous competition across markets, open trade and a stable economic environment, sound policies and mechanisms based on empirical and realistic models, efficient and transparent regulatory systems, and a strong emphasis on education at all levels.

The Alliance for Innovation and Development regards these public policy pillars as central to strengthening knowledge-based industries and global markets.
