HLF president Mario H. Lopez appeared on the 5G Action Now podcast to talk about his recent opinion piece in the Morning Consult on the importance of closing the Digital Dividethe gap in access to communication technologies that exists for underserved communities.  The benefits will be widespread, including for students and developing technologies, especially considering the dramatic increase in bandwidth that 5G Internet networks will have over older infrastructure.

The op-ed points out:

A study from Pew Research Center estimates that 25 percent of Hispanic adults are smartphone-dependent, meaning they have wireless connectivity, but lack a basic broadband connection. This shows a strong need for robust internet spectrum availability. The best path forward is almost certainly an “all of the above” strategy to strengthen both wired and wireless networks.
