HLF today joined over 180 signatories to call for Members of Congress in both parties to come together to work for much-needed immigration reform in the 117th Congress. The signatories represent a broad group of business, faith, law enforcement, civic, and other organizations. The group includes businesses and organizations from technology, retail, manufacturing, agricultural/dairy sectors, as well as law enforcement, faith, and civic groups.
The statement, which can be read in full here) cites the strong bipartisan consensus among Americans for positive immigration reform:
Polling consistently shows broad, bipartisan support for immigrants and immigration reform. Recent polls have found that over 77%of Americans believe that immigration is good for the countryand78% believe DACA recipients should be able to remain in America, and a Fox News poll on Election Day that found 71% of Americans support legal status for undocumented immigrants. Historically, strong support has existed for immigration reform that addresses border security, expanded visa programs for high-skilled and agricultural workers, and regularizing the status of undocumented immigrants.
Creating a modern, efficient, and humane system for legal immigration is critical to reducing illegal immigration, growing the American economy, and finally turning the corner in combating the pandemic, especially given the huge number of immigrants who are essential workers in fields ranging from health care, service, transportation, food and agriculture, and many other sectors of the economy.
