Earlier this year, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against the
Federal Communications Commission on policy that would have modernized media
regulations and widened the path for a successful industry that revolves
around innovation.
The result of the ruling wrapped the future of American media in red tape,
opting for more restrictive measures that place even more obstacles in front
of organizations like struggling newspapers that are fighting for their very
survival in this digital age. This is done by enforcing mandates on who is
allowed entry into the ownership of media organizations.
The FCC recently refiled the motion and now the Third Circuit has a chance
to make things right and establish policy that allows everyone to succeed by
removing restrictions to media ownership. HLF believes that a favorable
ruling will allow more room for potential media entrepreneurs to rebuild newsrooms,
create jobs, and be more successful overall.
