The media is making much hay from a video that was taped back in May of Mitt Romney saying that 47% of people on government assistance will not vote for him. We agree with Gov. Romney that it was not a well crafted statement, and also with others who point out that the calculus is not correct, it is worth noting
HLF President Mario H. Lopez was on CNN Early Start this morning talking about the “47%” comment, as well as the fact that Romney made a joke about his family’s roots in Mexico: “my dad, you probably know, was the governor of Michigan and was the head of a car company, but he was born in Mexico. And had he been born of Mexican parents I’d have a better shot at winning this.”
Gov. Romney made a similar joke on Spanish-language network Univision back in January, and no one at the network, or anywhere else, thought anything of it. But less than 50 days before election day, naturally it is a controversy.
