WASHINGTON, D.C.–The Hispanic Leadership Fund issued the following statement from its president Mario H. Lopez in response to the U.S. Senate confirming Gov. Rick Perry as Secretary of Energy:
“As the former governor of the state of Texas, Governor Perry created 2.2 million new jobs while enacting energy policies that helped the state’s economy prosper for working class Americans.
Under Gov. Perry’s leadership, Texas’ natural gas production increased by 50% while its oil production soared by 260%, returning to levels not seen since the 1970s. During Perry’s last five years as governor, thriving oil and gas exploration and extraction helped Texas to lead the nation in new job creation. He also expanded the use of clean energy and made Texas a leader in that sector.
We will advocate for saving small businesses from the negative effects of over regulating and job killing energy policies of the last eight years. We look forward to working with Gov. Perry on spreading the positive economic impact he created in Texas throughout the rest of the country.”
The Hispanic Leadership Fund previously sent a letter to the U.S. Senate in support of Gov. Perry’s nomination.
