WASHINGTON, D.C.–Following the confirmation of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court, the Hispanic Leadership Fund issued the following statement from its president, Mario H. Lopez:
“The Hispanic Leadership Fund commends the bipartisan group of U.S. Senators for voting to confirm Judge Neil Gorsuch as the newest Justice on the Supreme Court even after Chuck Schumer and most of his Democrat colleagues cynical and hypocritical attempted to play politics with the nomination process. The Democrat filibuster on Judge Gorsuch’s confirmation was extraordinary and never done to any U.S. Supreme Court nomination in history.
“Supreme Court Justices are charged with applying principles set forth in the Constitution and not with substituting their own political preferences for what is found in the law. Throughout his career as a litigator and a federal court of appeals judge, Judge Gorsuch has demonstrated a deep understanding and commitment to protecting our nation’s laws while seeking justice for all. Our country will be greatly served by having such a talented, experienced, and respected judge serving on the Supreme Court.”
